CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A man has been indicted for abducting a cab driver, stuffing him in the trunk of his cab, then leading police on a chase.

A Hamilton County grand jury has indicted Charles Black, 30, for aggravated robbery, robbery, three counts of felonious assault, two counts of kidnapping and one count of failure to comply with the order of signal of a police officer. If convicted of all charges, he faces the possibility of 68 years in prison.

Investigators say Mulugeta Shiferaw was driving his West Side Cab on Sept. 8 when he received a call to pick up Black somewhere in the downtown/Over-the Rhine area.

At some point, Black locked Shiferaw in the trunk of the cab and kept him there for approximately 10 hours.  The police were contacted when Shiferaw's fellow cabbies could not locate him.

Police pursued the vehicle twice for a total of approximately 22-24 minutes and finally stopped the cab at approximately 7 p.m. when Black crashed in Elmwood.

Black ran from the cab but the police were able to apprehend him at 601 Township in Elmwood. Shiferaw was found in the trunk of the cab with serious injuries. He remains hospitalized and is expected to be permanently disabled as a result of his abduction.

The charges include charges for the aggravated robbery, robbery and felonious assault of Shiferaw as well as two felonious assault charges for attempting to hit two Springfield Township officers involved in the pursuit.  They were attempting to deploy stop sticks when Black drove near them and attempted to run them down with his vehicle.  Neither officer was hurt in this incident.
