TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

An alleged car thief was struck and killed by a truck after apparently burglarizing a vehicle early Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews responded to an auto-pedestrian accident on 110 Van Highway at County Road 48 around 6 a.m. Tuesday.

According to authorities, there were two males walking on Highway 110 when one of them was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene of the accident.

Colton James Bain, 23, died from injuries he sustained in the incident, DPS officials say.

According to the Trooper on the scene, the other pedestrian that was not hit by the truck was intoxicated.

Authorities believe both men are linked to a vehicle burglary that took place before the incident because of items they were carrying, including a TV, lunch box and bow and arrow set.

The intoxicated man was arrested and booked into the Smith County Jail.

Smith County authorities are searching for the suspect vehicle: a silver, four-door Dodge pickup truck last seen heading north on Highway 110.
