CANTON, TX (KLTV) -

One East Texas woman and a Precinct 4 constable went out of their way to help save an owl after it was hit by a truck Thursday night.

According to the Van Zandt County Constables facebook page, an owl was hit by a pickup truck on County Road 1215 Thursday night. The next morning, it was discovered that the hurt owl was still in the truck bed.

Leslie Hayes approached a precinct 4 Constable for help, who connected Mrs. Hayes with a Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden.

The Game Warden provided advice to Mrs. Hayes, who was also connected with Edom Veterinarian Doc Collins. Mr. Collins took the owl in to provide first aid and shelter until a sanctuary can take the owl in for recovery and rehab.

Another post on the Van Zandt County Constables facebook page said, "Please keep in mind many wild animals can be very dangerous when in close contact with humans. You should not follow this example. We are happy this time it worked out and the Owl got help and Mrs Hayes was there to help."
