SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Hundreds of people showed up to the funeral services of Staff Sgt. Kevin Weiner Saturday afternoon at Central Assembly of God Worship Center in Haughton.

Family, fellow soldiers, and local dignitaries paid their respects to Sgt. Weiner after the guardsman was killed Tuesday afternoon when a tractor trailer collided with the National Guard Humvee while he was returning from Hurricane Isaac response in South Louisiana.

"He was the type of guy that everybody wants to be their friend," says Sgt. Scott Davis.

Weiner was laid to rest at the Hillcrest Cemetery following full military services. Men and women in uniform filled the streets, each showing their respects to a fellow soldier who died while serving his country.

"He was part of a great family, and great community of soldiers who are not just to our country but to our state," says Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover.

Weiner leaves behind a wife and three children, but he also leaves behind 12 years of service to our country.
