One dead after attempted home invasion, suspects at large

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Police have identified the man shot late Wednesday night in Shreveport's Ingleside neighborhood.

They say 32-year-old Jason Williams was shot multiple times at a home in the 4000 block of Virginia Avenue just after 10 p.m. as two men attempted to force their way in the front door. Witnesses told police that after the two men were unable to get into the home, they began to fire shots through the door, striking Williams. He was taken to LSU Health Shreveport, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses say two men were seen running away from the house after it happened, but so far, police say they only have a very limited description.

A neighbor on the scene Wednesday night tells KSLA News 12 she saw some teens fighting in the street about 10 minutes before she heard the gun shots go off. "You don't even know where to stay, is it safe or not? You have to worry about, is something going to happen while you're trying to sleep? Are bullets going to come through my door?" says Ticarra Clark. Clark says she was sitting on her porch when she heard the gun shots.

Police are still investigating this latest fatal shooting, the third in less two weeks. "We can't say what exactly is causing it, we've yet to establish motive, in some of the incidents that we are working. However in this case it looks like, initially, there may be some undertones of some narcotic activity going on," says Shreveport Police Department spokesperson, Cpl. Marcus Hines.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to call Shreveport Police at 318-673-6955 or Shreveport-Caddo Crimes Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
