Historic Texarkana cemetery vandalized again

For the second time in three months, the historic Stateline Cemetery in Texarkana, Arkansas has been vandalized.

"To desecrate a grave is one of the most heinous types of crimes because these people have no voice," said Stateline Cemetery Association President, Emily Tarr.

The last time it happened was in June, where close to 100 headstones were vandalized. Around 20 of them were knocked over on the Stateline side of the cemetery. Some of the grave sites there date back to 1815.

At the time, the President of the Stateline Cemetery Association estimated at least $20,000 worth of damage had been done. The cemetery association offered a reward of $1,500. That reward still stands.

"There is a reward through Crimestoppers, and the cemetery association is also adding money to increase that reward should someone come forward," said Tarr.

Tarr says this time around, some 15 headstones and family plots in a different section of the cemetery have been vandalized. It's believed to have happened over the weekend.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department at 903-798-3154 or Texarkana area Crime Stoppers at 903-793-7867.
