New Boston man charged with theft of trucks, copper wire

NEW BOSTON, TX (KSLA) -

The Bowie County Sheriff's Office says he stole three pickup trucks, more than 4,400 feet of copper wire, a trailer and a dirt bike. Now, 29-year-old Nikkie Lee Mitchell is in custody, charged with three counts of theft.

BCSO investigators had been chasing Mitchell since obtaining warrants for him in connection with thefts that occurred in the New Boston and Texarkana area on May 9, May 11 and August 12. 

On September 5, investigators got a tip on where Mitchell might be located, but he was able to get away and the search continued on September 6. That led to the discovery of one of the stolen pickup trucks, and another tip that he was hiding out at a house in Texarkana, Arkansas. With help from the Texarkana, AR Police Department, Mitchell was located and arrested.

Deputies say the following property was recovered along the way:

2004 Ford F250 Pickup stolen from CR 4008 in New Boston
2000 Ford F350 Pickup stolen from Shiloh Road in Texarkana
4,472 feet of copper telephone  wire stolen from Shiloh Road in Texarkana
Custom Cable Spool trailer stolen from Shiloh Road in Texarkana
2001 Dodge 3500 Pickup stolen from CR 4001 New Boston
Yamaha dirt bike stolen from Idabel ,Oklahoma

Mitchell is charged with three counts of theft over $1,500 under $20,000, and is being held on $45,000 bond.
