SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Hundreds of Isaac evacuees are headed back home to South Louisiana and the shelter in Shreveport has closed its doors. The last 200 evacuees, who were from St. John the Baptist Parish, left around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

The Caddo-Bossier Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness confirms that starting around 10:00 Monday night, evacuees at the Jewella Avenue shelter began boarding buses for the long ride home.

Most of them will be taken to post-storm shelters that are set up in the parishes where they live.

Before the final set of evacuees left on Tuesday a generous Shreveport businessman and his church handed out $100 to the head of households to distribute to their families.

The transports started at 10 p.m. with evacuees who had confirmed jobs. Transports were expected to continue until after midnight and then start up again mid-morning on Tuesday.

Director of CBOHSEP Sandy Davis said that by Wednesday, most of the 1,000 evacuees housed at the Jewella Avenue shelter would be back in South Louisiana.
