Isaac costs to La. government: $66M and rising

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal says Hurricane Isaac has cost state and local government agencies in Louisiana more than $66 million so far.

The cost is expected to grow.

State agencies have tallied more than $56 million for preparation and response efforts - like dollars for shelters, fuel and food and water. More than $38 million has been spent on supplies, with another $9 million spent on overtime and employee costs, according to Jindal's Division of Administration.

Jindal says parish governments have spent at least $10 million.

Seventy-five percent of the cost is expected to be covered by FEMA, leaving the state with a $14 million bill so far.

Division of Administration spokesman Michael DiResto says a state emergency response fund contains more than $16 million that can help cover state costs.
