Joy ride in patrol car leads to Arkansas deputy's firing

MILLER COUNTY, AR (KSLA) -

A joy ride in a Miller County patrol car results in the arrest of an Arkansas woman and the firing of a Miller County sheriff's deputy.

County authorities say Deputy Cody Hensley turned in his badge and keys last week after a female friend of his took a drive in the car while the deputy was asleep at home.

Chief Deputy Duke Schofield says Hensley did not report the incident to the proper authorities.

"He questioned the female about it, and she said she had driven it around the yard. The next day, when Mr. Hensley got in his vehicle to go back to Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy, he noticed a half a tank of gas was missing," Schofield says.

Hensley, hired in June, was just two weeks away from graduating from the Arkansas Law Enforcement Academy.

Deputies arrested Amy Telles of Fouke and charged her with unauthorized use of a vehicle. Telles is out on bond awaiting her next court appearance.
