SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The first nonstop flight from Denver landed safely in Shreveport Tuesday afternoon.

United Airlines announced earlier this month that it will have daily nonstop service to Denver from Shreveport.

The plane, flying under the carrier name United Express ExpressJet, will be a 50-seat Embraer-145 regional jet.

Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover says this is just one step to improve the quality of the city's airport.

"This is, without question, very, very good news. You have challenged us to make Shreveport Regional Airport better. This can't be a challenge that Shreveport takes lightly. Because it's not an airport that simply affects the city of Shreveport. It's an airport that affects all of the ArkLaTex," Glover says.

United also announced a promotion, a contest in which the airline will give away a trip for two to Denver for the Saint-Broncos game this year. The Saints play the Broncos on Sunday, October 28.

Those interested in participating can sign up at booths located at several local games this weekend.
