SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Wouldn't you think that the more money you have, the more you have to donate? Think again.

When it comes to supporting charities, middle class Americans shell out more of their bucks compared with the rich.

A new study compares charitable contributions to household income. On average, households that earned between $50,000 and $75,000 for the year donated more than seven percent of their income to charity.

People who have made $100,000 or more gave away just more than four percent.

The study found that religion, a person's zip code, political party affiliation and tax incentives affect a person's generosity.
