BOWIE COUNTY, TX (KSLA) -
A Queen City man is behind bars, accused of impersonating a police officer in Bowie County, Texas over the weekend.
Police say 25-year-old Jeremi Mathew Blake attempted to pull two women over early Saturday morning.
The Bowie County Sheriff's Office says the first woman reported she was traveling on Highway 67 around 1:45 a.m. Saturday when she saw a vehicle gaining speed on her with red and blue lights on the dashboard. She pulled over, and the man who was driving the vehicle approached her wearing gloves and a navy blue t-shirt with POLICE across the front, with his hand at his side as if he were hiding a weapon.
Recognizing immediately he was not a police officer, she reportedly told him so, and she says he turned around and walked off. She called 911.
Just after 3 a.m., another woman was driving home along FM 3098 when she saw red and blue lights in her rearview mirror. She says she stopped and the man approached her and told her she was going a little fast. She describes the man as wearing a black T-shirt with POLICE across the front, and says he was acting nervously. When he walked away, she drove off, but she says he showed up again as she pulled into her mother's driveway.
This time, he asked her for directions to Redwater and asked her if this was her residence. She told him it was her mother's. According to her report to police, he said it was nice and returned to his vehicle and left. That's when she called 911.
Police say both victims described the suspect and his vehicle. A short time later, Deputy Chris Allison spotted the suspect's vehicle at FM 3098 and Highway 67, driven by Blake. During the stop, Deputy Allison says he saw the red and blue dash lights, a plastic police badge and the black POLICE t-shirt. He also says he found a set of handcuffs in the suspect's pants pocket.
Blake, who is not a police officer, was arrested and charged with 2 counts of impersonating a public servant. His bond has been set at $1,000,000.00 on each count, for a total of $2,000,000.00.
