Family members say the woman severely beaten Sunday in Mooringsport is no longer on life support.
27 year-old Leslie Moss was taken off life support at LSU Health on Monday, according to her aunt, Laura Morace. Morace says her organs are being donated.
"It got to the point where she wasn't doing any better, if she were to come out of it she would have to have a feeding tube, She wouldn't be able to breathe on her own," said Leslie's brother, Dustin Moss.
Leslie Moss was critically injured Sunday morning in an altercation that left the father of her children, 29-year-old Stuart Myers dead from a gunshot would to the chest. Caddo Parish sheriff's deputies say Roderrick Scott, 35, beat Myers in the head with a shotgun before shooting him. They say Moss was beaten in the head with the same shotgun.
Dustin Moss says the attack was witnessed by the couple's two young boys.
"When I drove up to the detectives office that day, KK jumped in my arms and said my momma was shot. they saw it happen, they saw everything," said Dustin.
The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office has not yet confirmed Moss' death, but Dustin tells KSLA News 12 that the decision to remove his sister from life support was a difficult and heartbreaking one, made after doctors told the family that the swelling in his sister's brain had caused irreversible damage. Still, "As bad as the damage was, my mom didn't want to let her go, I didn't want to let her go."
"She was a very spunky person," says Dustin Moss. "She was also a loving mother, a loving wife. She cared about her family to no end."
Moss says his sister leaves behind two young boys, and that there was no life insurance. An account has been set up in her name at Capital One Bank to help cover her funeral expenses and to help the children.
Investigators say Myers and Moss had been living in the mobile home in the 8900 block of Lindsay Road with his mother and her boyfriend, Roderrick Scott, but recently they'd all been having problems getting along. They say Sunday's violence stemmed from an argument among them when Scott and Myers' mother began making plans to move out.
Deputies say Scott confessed to the beating and shooting in interviews with investigators. He has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated battery. There's no word yet on whether those charges will be upgraded in light of Moss' death.
