Police in College Station, Texas held a news conference Tuesday to release more information in connection with Monday's shooting near Texas A & M University.

A Brazos County constable and an innocent bystander were killed, along with the gunman.

Three other officers and a 55-year-old woman were also wounded. College Station Police Chief Jeffrey Capps on Monday stressed that the two-block area centering on 211 Fidelity Street is still an active crime scene. Constable Bachmann was serving eviction papers to that address around Noon on Monday.

"Officer Bachmann was shot in the front yard of that residence by Thomas Caffell," said Chief Capps. "Caffell then began shooting at other victims in the area, then at College Station police officers as they were approaching the scene. Our officers returned fire, striking Caffell. During the incident, Caffell fired several rounds. Investigators have found several long guns and pistols in the area that he used."

Once College Station police officers arrived on the scene, Capps says it took them several minutes of back and forth gunfire to subdue Caffell.

Police say that they had dealt with Caffell before, and declined to elaborate on the specific types of guns he used, pending their investigation.
