SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A committee of people in the area has finally picked a way to honor our veterans this Veterans Day. At 11:00 AM Friday that committee is getting together to put the finishing touches on their plans for a veterans day parade.
So far, there are about 60 veterans who have signed up to walk in the parade. It's going to be a fairly short route: down Pershing blvd and it will end at Hurst going inside to the fair. From clowns and the metropolitan band to several different groups from Barksdale Air Force Base, they are well stocked with entertainment. "We have floats, we have marching groups, we have all 50 state flags, plus the POW and MIA flag as well as the Purple Heart flag and that's going to lead the parade" Linda Clements, a committee member for the parade, says.
She says that the parade is a way to say thank you to all the local veterans and hometown heroes. "We want all veterans whether they're active duty or retired veterans or whatever to know that we appreciate and love them, Shreveport and Bossier and the communities does too and this is just a way for us paying back, saying thank you very much for all your service" Clements says.
If you are interested in getting involved, the meeting is Friday, August 10th, at 505 Travis Street, Government Plaza Building, Government Chamber. For more information on it you can contact the Caddo Parish Commission Clerk's Office at (318) 226-6596 or Commissioner Kenneth Epperson at (318) 773-2654. Caddo and Bossier are working together to make this a great way to slaute our veterans. The committee does not want to leave anyone out, so call if you want to be included.
