SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

And then there were 20.

The Louisiana Film Prize announced Thursday night the 20 finalists for the first annual Louisiana Film Prize.

The contest invites filmmakers from all over the world to create and present a short film, so long as the the film is shot in the Shreveport-Bossier area.

The prize, $50,000, is one of the world's largest cash prizes for a short film, festival organizers say.

The 20 films will be shown during festival weekend from Oct. 5 through Oct. 7, and, according to organizers, the audience will be one of the judges a la "American Idol."

Which means plenty of politicking by filmmakers between now and then.

"To win the $50,000 prize, these filmmakers have to shout about their films from every rooftop. It's going to be part Sundance, part Lollapalooza," said Gregory Kallenberg, founder of the Louisiana Film Prize.
