SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
DeSoto parish authorities are hoping to bust up a counterfeit check-cashing ring, and say they need the public's help to do so.
They're looking for three people from the Shreveport Bossier area. They believe 31-year-old Willie Stringer, 37-year-old David Simpson, and 19-year-old Lawanda Blue are hitting several liquor stores in and around Mansfield with fake payroll checks, cashing them in for about 800 bucks each time.
"We believe they are working together," says DeSoto Parish Sheriff's investigator, Chato Atkins.
Surveillance video shows two of the men reportedly cashing those checks, and both of them can be seen even producing identification to the cashier.
Atkins says he hopes to catch the three suspects before they do it again.
"One of the things we try to do is arrest these people as quickly as possible, gather as much evidence as we can, make sure we get a conviction on them so that part of the restitution is to pay back the store owners," says Sgt. Atkins.
If you have any information on these people, call the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's office at 318-872-3956.
