SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
The suspect in a shooting in west Shreveport Wednesday night has been shot and killed by a Shreveport police officer.
It happened around 9 p.m. at a home in the 9200 block of Cade Drive. Police say they found a woman outside of the home there suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach.
The woman was taken to LSUHSC where she underwent emergency surgery for what has been described as a potentially life-threatening injury.
Investigators say the male suspect and the woman had been romantically involved in the past. The man, who was armed with the shotgun, apparently forced his way into the home there on Cade Drive and shot the victim. He then dragged the wounded woman into the front yard and returned inside where he ultimately confronted police with his weapon and was shot.
There were three children in the home at the time of the first shooting but they were not injured.
Shreveport Police Department Chief Willie Shaw has placed all three of the officers involved on paid administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy. "This is a tragedy for all involved and our prayers are with the officers and the families of the victim and the deceased," says Shaw.
The names of the victim and the deceased suspect are not being released at this time pending notification of their next of kin. The names of the police officers involved are also not being released.
