Bold copper thief caught on camera

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Universal Plumbing in Shreveport is the target of another metal theft, but in this case surveillance video will play a huge role in the investigation. Over the past few months, Universal Plumbing has been the target of copper and lead theft, with over $2,000 in metal stolen from the business.

"It's very disheartening. As we watch the videos we see the thieves are getting bolder and bolder. When we have someone jumping the fence in broad daylight, with cars passing by a main street, you know you have a problem then," said Trey Giglio with Universal Plumbing.

In the surveillance video, the thief can be seen climbing over the fence surrounding the business before getting to work. In broad daylight, the man is caught on camera rummaging through scrap metal looking for copper and lead. Business owners point out how the thief knew exactly where he could find the metal.

"I don't think this is his first time in. We've had these things going on for the past couple of months and we believe they're casing us out. They know where to go. They know where we keep our things," said Giglio. "We're not only looking out for ourselves, but all the citizens of Shreveport, and our fellow business owners. We don't need this type of thing happening in our community. It's just not acceptable."

If you have any information on this case, call Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373.
