SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
Stores around the area have been packed with parents. We're all getting ready to send our kids back to school.
KSLA News 12 hit the road with a second grade school supply list and a calculator to try and find the lowest prices on school supplies. Marketing experts say the prices have gone up this year.
We checked the prices on the same items on the list at three different local stores. We hit Brookshire's first. It totaled out to be $38.52. Next stop is Kroger, where we tallied up $34.19. Last was Walgreens, the price tags there added up to a much higher number, at $50.69. So in the end, Kroger came out as the cheapest, followed by Brookshire's, and then Walgreens.
Marketing experts compare those numbers to other years, it breaks down like this: elementary schools prices for each student went up a little more than 3%, middle schools, prices went up more than 5%, and high school prices went up just over 2%.
We spoke with Praise Temple Full Gospel Cathedral's Bishop Brandon about their Backpack Giveaway. "We're giving away nearly 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies and we're certainly excited about this" Brandon says. This is their 11th annual give away. They are taking donations all the way up until the time they are giving them out, which is 7 PM Wednesday evening at the church.
