SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

"He was obviously in shock. Things weren't going good for him obviously. All I could do was get on the phone and call 911," said Chris Tarver as he described the moments after he discovered a man in the street whose stomach had been slashed.

The stabbing happened just before 8 p.m. in the 45-hundred block of Tulsa Street.

Shreveport police detectives on the scene say the two men were fighting in the front yard of a home. Witnesses say neither man lived at the house.

During the fight the suspect reportedly pulled a knife and slashed the victim across his stomach. First responders told police the injuries were life threatening.

The victim was rushed to LSU Hospital. He has not been identified and his condition is unknown.

Police are still looking for the suspect who reportedly drove away from the scene in a black Chevy Malibu.

Neighbors tell us they didn't know the man had been stabbed until they saw him stumbling out into the street.

"I went out to help him and he hit his head pretty hard on the street. I thought maybe a head injury, but when I got out there his intestines were hanging out. My first thought was to push them back in," said Tarver.

Police don't know why the men were arguing. The investigation is ongoing.
