SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
It was one year ago today that two Navy SEALs from Shreveport were among the 30 service members killed during an insurgent attack in Afghanistan.
Lieutenant Commander Jonas Kelsall and Senior Petty Officer Robert Reeves were graduates of Caddo Magnet High School. They grew up together, went to school together and both became Navy SEALs with the elite "Team Six."
Jim Reeves still feels a big hole in his heart with the loss of his son Rob, but he says remembering Rob's legacy encourages him every day.
"Life is very special, and I hate that it ended at 32 for Rob but it makes me appreciate every day that I've got going forward," said Reeves.
Jim remember the good memories like the times the family gathered at the kitchen table.
"The kitchen table is what held everybody together," said Reeves. "Rob used to say he didn't want anything in this house when you (Jim) die, I want the kitchen table."
Senior Petty Officer Rob Reeves was a larger than life kind of guy who loved to make people laugh. He never bragged about his job protecting us or the medals he received doing it. He just did his job.
"If you didn't know he was a Navy SEAL, and a sniper and had done hundreds and hundreds of missions, you would never know it just talking to him," said Reeves.
