HARRISON COUNTY, TX (KSLA) -
An East Texas man is behind bars after an argument led to a deadly shooting Saturday night in Harrison County.
Deputies say James Earl Rudd, 60, was booked into the Harrison County Jail on one charge of murder following the shooting death of Curtis Jerome Roberts, 52.
Deputies say they were called about 8 p.m. to investigate a shooting at 329 Floyd Evans Road in Marshall. Once there they met the owner, Rudd, and saw the victim, Curtis Jerome Roberts, 52, lying on the ground and bleeding from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his chest.
During interviews at the scene, deputies say they discovered that there had been a party at the house and that Rudd allegedly had had an argument with Roberts. Rudd told Roberts to leave and began to argue with Rudd, deputies say.
Deputies say witnesses told them that Rudd then got a shotgun, confronted Roberts, and after more arguing, shot Roberts.
Judge Westy Meisenheimer pronounced Roberts dead at the scene at about 9:15 p.m. and ordered an autopsy, deputies say.
An investigation is continuing.
