SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
Shoppers across the ArkLaTex are spending major bucks this weekend looking to save big without paying State Sales Tax.
This weekend marks the Sales Tax Holiday for both Louisiana and Arkansas. Shoppers can buy back-to-school items without paying the 4 percent Louisiana and 6 percent Arkansas state sales taxes.
Many of the shoppers took advantage of the extra discount with the purchase of big ticket electronics. "A lot of computers, tablets, and appliances, anything that they can save on," says Best Buy manager Joel Sayre about the recent purchases he has seen at his store location.
Some customers didn't realize they were getting an extra discount. "I stopped in for a bargain, and I got an extra four percent off the state taxes," says customer Michael Ledet as he was cashing out at the register.
The Louisiana Department of Revenue is encouraging all shoppers to keep receipts on school supplies. Some items can be used as deductions on your 2012 Tax Return.
In Louisiana the Tax Free holiday ends Saturday August 4th, 2012. The Arkansas holiday starts Saturday August 4th, 2012 and continues through Sunday August 5th, 2012. In Texas, the holiday is August 17th, 2012 through August 18th, 2012.
