CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Caddo sheriff's deputies arrested a Keatchie man Thursday in connection with a one-car accident in which a four-year-old boy was ejected on July 3.

Deputies say that Daniel Jackson, 25, was impaired when he lost control of his Chevy Cavalier and drove it off Hwy. 169 in Keithville and into the woods.

Both Jackson and the child were ejected during the crash. Jackson was seriously injured, and the child, who suffered minor injuries, returned to the roadway where he flagged down a passerby, deputies say.

There was no child safety seat in the car, deputies say.

Both were taken to LSU Health for treatment.

After an investigation, deputies got a warrant for Jackson's arrest on charges of vehicular negligent injury, driving under the influence with child endangerment, and child safety restraint violations.

Deputies say they found Jackson Thursday morning hiding in the bathroom of his house on Keatchie Marshall Road. He was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on the warrant. No bond has been set.

Deputies encourage motorists to call the Sheriff's Safety Town at 693-7233 to learn more about child safety seats or to have their child seat checked for proper installation.
