SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Samuel Jordan will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of a 9-week-old girl. That sentence was imposed Wednesday night, after a Caddo Parish jury deadlocked in the penalty phase of the trial.

The sentence comes following Jordan's conviction over the weekend of first-degree murder for killing Lyrica T. Kennedy.

Jordan, 24, was arrested in December 2008 and indicted on the charge, after bringing the infant to WK Pierremont Health Center in critical condition because she was having trouble breathing. Doctors determined the child was suffering from severe head injuries and declared her brain dead. The child was pronounced dead six days later.

The jury had a choice between life in prison or the death penalty. In cases of deadlock, a mandatory life sentence is imposed.
