Extreme heat leads to busier days for cooling companies

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

As the temperatures in the ArkLaTex continue to stay near triple digits, business for local air conditioning companies is on the rise.

Air Systems, L.L.C. is one of the many air conditioning and cooling companies with a busy schedule because of an increase in customers due to the hot temperatures. "We have more business than we can take care of in a day," says veteran cooling technician Ricky McGraw.

McGraw has spent more than thirty years in the heating and cooling business, and he warns residents against staying in a hot home without cooling. "It was 100 degrees in there," he says about a home he recently visited.

Working to keep his customers cool, McGraw faces hot temperatures outside and temperatures up to 130 degrees inside of many attics. He has found a way to work through the heat. "Keep hydrated. If you stop sweating you get some place cool. Get yourself rehydrated to cool down," he says.

And if you do not have air conditioning there are a few helpful tips.
- Keep the sun out of your home by using blinds
- Use fans to circulate more air
- Leave your home and go to air conditioned locations in the peak of the day

The City of Shreveport offers cooling stations at local recreation centers. For more information you can call 318-673-7727. These stations are free and open to the public.
