We are in a weather pattern this week where the heat index can exceed 105 degrees.
This is particularly dangerous for the elderly.
That's why it's so important for all of us to check on our relatives and neighbors to make sure they are O-K…especially if they don't have air conditioning.
Many older people will keep their windows and doors closed as a matter of safety. But, if there is no air circulation inside their home…the heat builds up…and heat stroke can occur.
KSLA News 12 is still accepting donations of fans. These are then distributed by the council on aging to those in our community who desperately need them. You can bring the fans by our T.V. station.
My message during this heat wave is to check on the elderly…your relatives or neighbors. A phone call is good…but nothing can beat a personal visit to their home.
I'm James Smith.
