Shreve Memorial Library to deliver a ton of food to area food bank

SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

Shreve Memorial Library will deliver more than a ton of food to the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Library officials say the delivery, which comes after "amnesty days," is their way of thanking Caddo Parish citizens for their favorable vote during April's millage renewal election.

Library patrons received overdue fine forgiveness from June 15th through July 15th.  For each non-perishable food item donated, overdue fines were forgiven. Officials described the response as phenomenal.

Food Bank officials say with budget cuts and low donations, they are approximately 1 million pounds low on food, and their shelves are just about bare.

"We recognized that many are struggling along with the agencies that are in place to help them. By offering fine forgiveness, it gives an opportunity to do goodwill toward our patrons and help other non-profit agencies help people," said Ivy Woodard-Latin, Public Relations Coordinator.
