Bossier council takes up Margaritaville road construction vote

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) - The Bossier City Council held a special vote Tuesday to award a bid for the road project in connection to the Margaritaville Resort Casino development.

The lowest bid came in from Fessler and Bowman at just more than $3.6 million dollars.

Once the road project gets underway, we're told there will be lots of construction cones leading up to the Louisiana Boardwalk and Bass Pro Shops.

But there will not be traffic interruptions in that area because construction will not begin for another three weeks or so.

The casino is expected to be up and running sometime in 2013. Developers are promising a big grand opening. They say Jimmy Buffett will make an appearance at the opening.

Developers say the $197 million casino will feature a 30,000 square foot, single-level gaming floor, unlike the other existing riverboat gaming facilities in the Shreveport-Bossier City market.

The casino will include over 1,300 slot machines, 46 table games as well as the famous "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" bar. The project will also feature a 396-room, 18 story hotel, a 900-seat state of the art entertainment venue, spa and fitness center, outdoor pool deck and dining area, dramatic landscaping and four food & beverage outlets, including the trademark Margaritaville Restaurant.

It is expected to bring more than 1,200 jobs to Bossier Parish.
