Store owner recounts armed robbery

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Just one day after the La Fuente Plaza Latina convenience store on Kingston Road in Shreveport was robbed, Maria Orellana remembers being held at gunpoint.

"He pushed me this way and that's when I went down this way and hit this wall," says Orellana who has operated the store for almost a year.

The robber took more than 32 thousand dollars from the store. The surveillance cameras in the store were not recording at the time of the robbery.

Maria describes what the robber said as he pulled the gun to her head. "Do you want me to use this toy on your head," he told me.

Business armed robberies in Shreveport are slightly up this year compared to last, but police recommend that store owners choose carefully when deciding how to protect their business.

"We would never tell someone not to protect yourself, or your property but you have to make the best decision based on what you know and what you have available to you at the time that that happens," says Shreveport Police Sgt. Bill Goodin.

This robbery is still under investigation. If you have any information you can call the Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
