TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

Charges have been upgraded against a Texarkana, Texas man originally accused of aggravated assault in the beating of another man on Tuesday.

22-year-old Brian Tremayne Porter is now charged with murder in the death of Michael Johnson, 43.

Johnson died Wednesday night, after being transported there in critical condition the night before. Bowie County Deputies were attempting CPR on him when officers arrived Tuesday night to the scene in the 3100 block of Buchanan Road, responding to a report of an assault in progress.

Investigators believe Johnson and Porter became involved in a confrontation that night, which led to Porter hitting Johnson on the side of his head with his fist. Johnson's body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Officers were able to get a description of the suspect, and Porter was arrested a short time later. He is now being held at the Bi-State Justice Center.

Police believe Porter acted alone and no other arrests are expected.

Police say this marks the second homicide of the year in Texarkana, Texas.
