SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

A popular free program set up to teach ArkLaTex young people how to swim has run out of room for more applicants.

The 450 spots available for children through Project Swim have been filled, say officials with Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) and Rock Solid Sports.

Mayor Cedric Glover announced the additional funding to pay for the swimming lessons on July 18th.  The city's free swim program has provided lessons for over a thousand youth and young adults since its inception, officials say.

Project Swim is funded through a grant from the Community Foundation. An additional $15,000 dollars was donated from the Hertz family.

If you have questions about the program, then you can contact the Rock Solid offices at 9333 Linwood Avenue, Shreveport, LA. 71106 or call 318-402-7242.
