GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
Authorities arrested a Dallas man Monday for driving drunk with a child and young person with Down Syndrome in the car.
Monday morning, the Gregg County Sheriff's Office reported a possible intoxicated driver headed eastbound on Interstate 20.
A trooper with the Department of Public Safety located the silver Dodge van that was reportedly driving "all over the road," nearly hitting other cars, near the intersection of I-20 and Estes Parkway.
The trooper stated in his report that the van had severe damage on the front passenger side, and the driver couldn't manage to stay within his lane; the van was observed driving onto the shoulder.
The trooper initiated a traffic stop, and noticed numerous 12 oz. Bud Light bottles on the floor board of the driver's side, as well as a small child in a car seat, and a young person in the back seat with Down Syndrome.
The driver, Alvaro Estrella, admitted to the trooper that he had consumed "a couple."
A field sobriety test was attempted, which the trooper reported Estrella had difficulty following instructions.
Estrella was placed under arrest after the trooper observed signs of intoxication.
The trooper administered a breathalyzer, and reported Estrella blew a .14, nearly twice the legal limit.
The adult passenger was also found to be intoxicated, as her breathalyzer put her blood alcohol limit also over the legal limit.
Estrella was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview where a blood sample was taken.
He was then transported to the Gregg County Jail; his bond was set at $5000.
He's since been released.
Authorities say the child in the car was three-years-old; the passenger with Down Syndrome was found to be 21.
