Chemical spill cleared at SUSLA

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A hazardous material team has cleared the scene of a chemical spill at Southern University at Shreveport.

Shreveport Firefighters were called to the Louis M. Collier Hall Natural Science Building and determined that a professor accidentally spilled a small amount of mercury in a classroom Tuesday afternoon.

SUSLA Director of Communications and Public Relations Bill Sharp says a the professor accidentally broke a container of mercury in a sink spilling it on the counter and floor. Sharp says no students were in the classroom at the time.

No one was injured. Sharp says no classes will be cancelled.
