SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

ArkLaTex residents are rallying around a nine-year-old girl who nearly drowned June 2 at a Shreveport country club.

Shelby Patrick is recovering at Our Children's House at Baylor in Dallas, and her family says they don't know how long that recovery will take or how much it will cost.

That's why Cammie Engle came up with a fundraiser called "Called "Shop for Shelby" at her Shreveport home, featuring clothing from the Matilda Jane collection. Engle is a sales representative of the clothing line. Proceeds from the clothing sales as well as Engle's commission will go to a donation account that's been set up at Progressive Bank.

Shelby's family is overjoyed by Engle's support and the support of those hosting and attending the fundraiser, says Shelby's aunt, Lalita Rogers. "Words can't express how we feel," Rogers says. "This is a real display of love and support from the Shreveport community, and we really appreciate it."

Rogers also notes the support from South Highland Elementary Magnet School, which will sponsor its own fundraiser next week at the school with a viewing of the movie "Madagascar."

"We just really appreciate all the support, the love, the acts of kindness. Words just really can't express how we feel. It's good to have that support system outside of the family unit," Rogers said.

The Shop for Shelby fundraiser continues until 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. Those who can't make it in person can still view and order the clothing online until 3 p.m. Saturday.

If you would like to donate, you can contact Progressive Bank at 318-213-5725.
