Band mates of the East Texas man who drowned at Lake Wright Patman talked about their tragic loss.
Jared McCasland drowned while swimming in Lake Wright Patman just south of Texarkana, Texas Tuesday afternoon.
McCasland was a bass guitar player in the band Sylo. His fellow band members spoke about receiving the news of his death. "We got a deal and we got an offer to play a huge show, the largest show of our life. And that same day we get this phone call," says David Ferland, Sylo band member.
McCasland had been with the band for six years. "Never in a million years, a trillion years would you ever think a man like that will be gone. A man loved by many people," says James Halstrom, friend.
Band members say MCasland was a good swimmer and they are trying to figure out what happened. "Everybody keeps asking me ‘Was he high?' ‘Was he drunk?' "You know?' And no, he wasn't by the way," says Ferland.
Investigators are waiting on an autopsy to determine the official cause of death. Witnesses say McCasland was swimming outside of the roped off area when he drowned.
"I'm just lost for words. He became my best friend. It will never be the same without him. I want to thank everybody that supported us," says Danny Sneed, Sylo band member.
Band members say it may take a while but they will perform again. "The man would not want them to stop because he has gone off to a better place," says Halstrom. "He would want them to continue to do what they are doing."
No word on funeral arrangements.
