LifeShare urgently needs O negative blood - KSLA News 12 Shreveport, Louisiana News Weather & Sports

LifeShare Blood Centers is calling on the public to help replenish a dwindling supply of blood, which is at a critically low level for type O negative blood.

"We are asking that anyone who is O negative and currently eligible to give blood please come by our Shreveport or Bossier City center, or one of our mobile drives as soon as possible," says LifeShare spokesperson Tina Martinez.

LifeShare Blood Centers is open until 4 p.m. today and from 8 to 3 p.m. Saturday. LifeShare can accommodate blood donors at these locations.

Also, a mobile drive will take place Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Old Navy store at 6640 Youree Dr. in Shreveport.

Individuals receive a mini-physical prior to the donation procedure, including a check of temperature, pulse, blood pressure and iron level. Potential donors must be age 16 or older, meet height and weight requirements, feel well and healthy at the time of donation, eat a good meal and increase fluid intake prior to donation.  16-year-olds must present written parent or guardian permission to donate.
