SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

After years of investigation, two men have been charged with the murder of Shannon Golston.

He was gunned down while sitting outside his apartment at the Southern Village Apartments on West 70th street back in 2009.

Golston's family says they had no idea why someone would want to kill him. And police had very little evidence to go on.No suspects were immediately arrested.

On Monday Timothy Thomas and Waco Collins were indicted on second degree murder charges.

Shreveport Police say a big break in the case came last month when the suspected murder weapon was found in Champion Lake at Quail Creek Apartments.

"It's pretty substantial. Any physical evidence is very substantial, once you bring in physical evidence and witness statements it all comes together," says Detective Rod Demery with the Shreveport Police Department. Demery credits other agencies such as the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office, The Caddo Sheriff's Office, and Bossier City Police for providing much needed support during the investigation.

Both men are already in jail and Collins is scheduled to be in court on unrelated drug charges later this month.
