TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -
The theft of copper wiring from a local motel parking lot has landed a Texarkana woman in jail, charged with felony theft.
Texarkana, Texas police were notified after an employee of D & D Builders, Inc. saw a woman steal a large amount of copper wiring from his work truck as it sat in a parking lot in the 5200 block of North Stateline Avenue just before 6:00 a.m. and notified police.
Based on the description of the suspect and her vehicle, officers realized they may know the identity of the suspect. Officer Shawn Jacobs went to the 100 block of Connella Street in Texarkana, Texas, and found what was believed to be the suspect vehicle. Inside the vehicle was a female matching the description of the suspect.
After detaining the female, Texarkana police say Officer Jacobs observed a large amount of wire in the backseat of the vehicle. The employee was able to positively identify both the wire and the female police now believe is responsible for stealing it.
Based on this evidence, Candace Bounds, 40, of Texarkana, Texas, was arrested for Theft of Material-Aluminum/Bronze/Copper/Brass U/$20,000 and Possession of Marijuana U/ 2oz.
Bounds was booked into jail at the Bi-State Justice Center and is awaiting bond.
