SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Caddo deputies have arrested a man for the attempted murder of his girlfriend after he drove the vehicle in which she was a passenger into Cross Lake.

Sheriff's patrol units were dispatched to a vehicle in the lake in the 6100 block of North Lakeshore Drive about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night.  A red SUV was in the water about 15 to 20 feet from the shore and appeared to be sinking.  Deputies said it also appeared that the driver, 29-year-old Dajuan Jackson, was restraining his female passenger, 19-year-old D'Aqua Guiden , in the vehicle while it was sinking.

Deputy Devon Pickett was the first to arrive on scene, along with Caddo Fire District 1 Fireman Justin Lewter.  Pickett and Lewter entered the water and swam to the vehicle.  They pulled Guiden from Jackson's grasp and out of the passenger window of the vehicle.  Jackson then climbed out of the vehicle. Deputies said Guiden could not swim, so Pickett swam to shore with her.  Lewter swam to shore with Jackson.

Deputies later learned that Jackson had deliberately swerved off the roadway into the lake in an effort to harm both himself and Guiden.  The two are boyfriend and girlfriend.

Guiden was treated at the scene and released.  Jackson was treated at the scene then transported to Caddo Correctional Center where he was booked for the attempted second-degree murder of Guiden.
