MILLER COUNTY, AR (KSLA) -
Authorities continue their search for two men in custody on murder charges who escaped from their cell at the Miller County Jail sometime early Monday morning.
The Miller County Sheriff's Office says 23-year-old Cortez Rashod Hooper and 36-year-old Quincy Vernard Stewart were last seen in their cell between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. Guards noticed them missing after 4:00 a.m.
The Sheriff's Office says the men used a hacksaw blade to cut the metal bars out of a 1' x 3 1/2' window, broke the glass out of another window on the second floor, then jumped to the ground. They got away from the jail property by getting past two-10' high razor-wire fence.
It looks like the pair used a mattress to break their fall when they jumped from the second story.
Warden Marty Brazell says he's conducting an internal investigation to find out how the hacksaw blades were brought into the jail.
Hooper was in jail for 1st degree murder, aggravated assault, and probation violations. Stewart was being held on a capital murder charge from Bowie County and drug possession. Both men are from the Texarkana area.
Hooper is 5'4" and 130 lbs. Stewart is 5'7" and 169 lbs.
