SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
Efforts to build a dog park in Shreveport got a big boost Saturday morning.
Dog owners from all over the area brought their furry friends to Hamel Memorial Park for a half mile jog.
There was also a 5k for the humans to run.
The Shreveport Dog Park Alliance put this event on to raise money for a regional dog park.
These dog owners say a dog park is way past due.
"Dogs are a part of the family. And we really need a place in Shreveport to allow the dogs to socialize and be with each other in an enclosed safe place," says Nancy Herring. "It's just a very healthy environment for people and pups. And we just need one in Shreveport. A lot of other towns this size would have at least one."
We're told this proposed dog park will go up at the riverfront at Hamel Memorial Park where this event took place.
