Texarkana firefighters rescue multiple people from burning apartment building

Texarkana, Texas firefighters rescued multiple people from a burning apartment building early Tuesday morning.

The emergency call went out at 2:48 a.m. from the Cedar Ridge Apartments at 4615 Summerhill Rd.

Texarkana Fire Chief, Steve Ramsey tells KSLA News 12 that firefighters arrived on scene and found light smoke, but after they got in there was at least a small to medium sized explosion which caused the fire to spread.

15 apartments had to be evacuated. Firefighters say one resident had to be taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Chief Ramsey reports some equipment was damaged. In the meantime, the building's apartment manager has opened a common building for the displaced residents.

Fire investigators spent the rest of the morning making sure the fire was out and sifting though an upstairs apartment, where they believe the fire originated. They are still trying to confirm how it started.

The tenant of that upstairs apartment told investigators he woke up and saw fire on the floor, and when he put it out, the flames only spread.
