The winners were announced for the 26th annual Tornado Safety poster contest held for all fifth graders in Caddo and Bossier parishes.
The posters had to give safety tips in the event of a tornado. The first place winner from Bossier Parish was Apollo Elementary student Alexandria Harris. The Caddo Parish first place winner was Brent Ashley from Lakeshore Elementary. Ashley says his poster focused on smartphones and severe weather. "You can use it to call people and tell them when you're in danger instead of playing games on there, take pictures and show them what kind of danger you are in. You can check your weather and see what kind of weather you're in to keep yourself safe," says Ashley.
More than 100 public, private and parochial schools were invited to participate in the contest in April.
