Firefighter hit by truck while collecting donations for MDA

HAUGHTON, LA (KSLA) -

A Haughton volunteer firefighter was seriously injured after he was hit by a truck Monday morning.

Louisiana State Police say around 10 a.m. Haughton Volunteer Firefighter Sean Stewart was standing at Highway 157 and Highway 3227 collecting funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association when he was hit by a Ford F-250. Police say the truck was making a left turn onto Highway 157 hitting Stewart in the back. The driver claimed that the sun was in his eyes.

Police say Stewart was taken to LSU Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver was cited for improper lane usage for turning from the wrong lane of travel.
