It's the second murder in one week for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, this time near Timpson, Texas. Frankie Baker was arrested Tuesday evening for the shooting death of Jimmy Hopkins.
Constable Stanley Burgay notified Shelby County Sheriff Newton Johnson at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday that there had been a shooting in the Timpson area, on FM 415.
The sheriff's office says Hopkins was driving down this driveway when Frankie Baker shot him in the head. The woman living at that residence tells me baker was acting in self defense.
"Both parties had shotguns. Of course it will be up to the grand jury to decide after we present all the facts," said Sheriff Newton Johnson.
Hopkins' former girlfriend Pam lived at the residence with her new boyfriend, Baker. She says Hopkins had come to the house before threatening to kill her and her family.
This most recent shooting came after a murder at the Joaquin Country Inn, also in Shelby County, last Friday. It makes it the second murder in Shelby County in just the past week.
"Those things were just things you can't predict. The two shootings were completely unrelated and one didn't have any bearing on the other. It's just one of those things that happens," Johnson said.
The alleged killer in this most recent murder is now in jail on $30 thousand bond.
