MILLER COUNTY, AR (KSLA) -
Emergency crews from both sides of the state line are on the scene of a five-car pile-up near the Arkansas-Louisiana state line involving two empty flatbed tractor-trailers and three cars.
Earlier reports of this wreck being a head-on collision involving a log truck were incorrect.
According to the Miller County Sheriff's Office, it happened on Highway 71 between Doddridge and Ida on the Arkansas side.
Officers on the scene say an Arkansas Highway Department crew was cutting trees along the side of the highway, when an 18-wheeler hit another 18-wheeler that was at a stop. Three more vehicles slammed into the flat-bed trucks.
At least two victims have been transported to the hospital by LifeAir, and two more by ambulance.
Among them, police on the scene have confirmed, are Joe LaFont and Tommy Chauvin from the Louisiana-based reality show, Swamp People. They were not seriously injured, and were not among those transported.
One lane of traffic has been reopened. There is no alternate route for traffic in the area, so the Miller County Sheriff's Office is asking motorists to avoid State Line Road at Hwy 71 while debris is being cleared.
