ZACHARY, LA (WAFB) -
A man accused of taking a half million dollars from retirees is dead after being shot by U.S. Marshals Monday morning.
U.S. Marshal's say they were serving a warrant to Gary L. Seale because he didn't show up to federal court Monday morning.
Seale was scheduled to appear in federal court Monday where he was expected to plead guilty. When he did not show up for court, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
When Marshals arrived at the Seale's house in the 12000 block of Milldale Road in Zachary, Seale pointed a gun at the Marshals and was shot. Seale, 57, died from gunshot wounds.
Seale was federally indicted on fraud charges in June of 2010. He faced up to 236 years in prison and a fine of $3,950,000.
Seale is accused of taking $500,000 of clients' money between 2001 and 2009 for his own and others' use, as well as laundering some of the money.
He is also accused of lying to a financial institution about a $900,000 loan obtained through a loan program sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Seale, the owner of BIS Business Brokers, also faced charges of filing false tax returns for 2004 and 2005.
Seale was charged with wire fraud, money laundering, making false statements to a financial institution, filing false tax returns and forfeiture.
